about

This song was for Arianne, a beautiful young woman and close friend of some of iLLtet's members. She had seen and done more at 22 years than many have done in a lifetime. Adept in math, science, medicine, (traditional and modern) and underworld activity. Creative, with a love of physics and astronomy but also a girl who had experienced much tragedy and loneliness in her short life. One of the few people I've known to whom I might be able to attribute the mental ability of "genius". She had family in Manhattan (in the projects) and we were very close, so she would come down from upstate for a few days or weekends here and there. One of these weekends we had a very small gathering at our Mutiny Zoo Recording studio in Hoboken. It was the kind of "in the moment," life affirming or life questioning soiree you might indulge if you knew it was your last day on Earth, no thought about the future, only the here and the now. I had often wondered if she did know. When we realized her body was cold and she did not wake up, she had already been dead for several hours. The next day turned into confusion and sadness, horror and grief, medics and police. Phone calls, reporters, speculation and gossip, even threats, as there was more and more complexity to this gifted and troubled young life than we had been aware. Being touched deeply by someone and experiencing a major transformation and a tragedy, stay with you throughout your life. It will also bond you in a mysterious and uncomfortable way with those whom you shared the experience. It feels like stepping out of reality and then crashing violently back into it.

The melody is simple and kind of ironic, sort of a nursery rhyme melody juxtaposed by the harsh sample from Missing Foundation, 12/8 swing rhythm and a typically unscientific Zef Noi$e crunchy guitar riff..the lead guitar is Boo Reiners playing slide on a Danelectro baritone guitar.

Do you think it's so unfair, its always been the same
forever standing there , with their tricks and games
Isn't it insane, life is a game,
nothings going to change, but things can't stay the same
she's having a party, invitation only,
all her friends are there, riding on a pony
no cause for celebration, excuse or explanation,
don't need a reason, this is how it goes
no one can help me, I'm lost all by myself,
running in a maze, I'll find my own way out
it was the Last day on Earth, Last Day on Earth
